Finding affordable flights

I know that many Americans (myself including) have used the "traveling is too expensive" excuse. This can be true depending on many factors like:

  • Destination
  • The airline
  • Connecting flights
  • The time you purchased your tickets
  • IP Address

                                                                                                      Apps

There are many apps that can help you locate the cheapest flights. The one I used was called skyscanner. This app tries to find the cheapest flights by searching all the airlines and connected flights to your selected destination. Also keep in mind that if your destination has more than one airport one might be cheaper than the other.

Another app that my mother used was called Hopper. This app also watches airline prices and lets you know when it's at its cheapests. I haven't used this app personally, but my mother says this helped her find good prices along with skyscanner.

                                                                                                     Best Airline

If you are traveling to Europe I strongly recommend Norwegian Air. This is what I used and my family when they came to visit me in August. Norwegian is an airline that targets middle class people.

The flights are very affordable, comfortable and they feed you on long flights. When I came to Spain I took two flights. The flight from Los Angeles to Barcelona was about 16 hours. I took the connected flight in Gatwick and had to wait about 6 hours in the airport (I was bored as hell). The total flight was about 480 US dollars. So if you are on a budget it's easy to save money to take this airline.

                                                                                                  Timing

They say when you fly to Europe it's best to get your ticket 120 days out. I've noticed that the prices can fluctuate almost daily. If you plan on coming during the summer I recommend you purchase your ticket at least 5 months in advance (Europe is very popular for tourists during the summer). My mother was able to get a direct flight from Los Angeles to Barcelona for 644 US dollars using Norwegian Air and watching the prices carefully.

                                                                                                 IP Address

This may sound strange, but your IP Address also impacts the price on buying your airline tickets. When my IP address was set to U.S. the tickets were more expensive, but when I changed it to a European country the price dropped a little. I used a VPN to change my IP address. My preferred VPN is TorGuard, but any VPN will do.

                                                                                              Connecting flights

This should be obvious, but the more connecting flights you have the cheaper the flight, but the longer it will take you to get to your destination. If I can't get a direct flight I usually look for a flight with no more one connecting flight. Traveling to Spain with two connecting flights can take more than 24 hours!

I hope this information helped should you decide to come to Spain or any other country in Europe. Now you can eliminate the excuses and fly to Europe for your next vacation!

Hasta luego!
